Agreement Number:

Agreement Value:
$18,000,000.00
Agreement Date:
Feb 17, 2025 - Mar 31, 2028
Description:
The aim of the Greater Montreal River Parkway (GMRP) project is to consolidate and enhance the recreational infrastructure of the St. Lawrence Seaway dyke in order to improve the public's contact with the river with the added benefit of providing active transportation access via a route open to pedestrians and cyclists that extends over 13km.
Currently, within the limits of the project, at the top of the dike there is a carriage road used primarily for operations and maintenance of Seaway facilities, as well as a partially asphalted cycle path. At the bottom of the dyke, on the shore of the St. Lawrence River, there are footpaths resulting from the informal and repeated passage of walkers. The CMM wishes to improve, formalise and perpetuate the existing recreational infrastructure over a distance of 13.4 km. The Promenade's surroundings will include several elements designed to meet users' needs:
- Creation of 8 rest areas and 14 observation points;
- Addition of 11 staircases or access slopes at defined points to provide a link between the top and bottom of the dyke.
- Installation of marker posts and interpretation panels along the route;
- Complete paving of the cycle path and the carriageway at the top of the dyke;
- Formalizing 9.0 km of footpath at the bottom of the dyke and adding 4.4 km of footpath at the top of the dyke.
- Adding an Ecoflo toilet block at the Samuel De-Champlain rest area.
The location of this infrastructure will be determined on the basis of physical and environmental constraints and the specific features of the site and its natural environment. In addition, this project will be carried out in harmony with the existing facilities of the RécréoParc water sports area in Sainte-Catherine.
