Description:
The City of Prince Rupert’s water distribution and sewer collection infrastructure is failing at an increasing, exponential rate. The City has identified 26 km of high priority watermains that require immediate replacement to mitigate the risk of a complete failure of the water system, and would have severe impacts to residents, businesses, essential services like hospitals and the first responders, and international businesses that facilitate trade through the Port of Prince Rupert. Similarly, along these corridors, the City will implement a sewer separation and replacement program for its failing combined sewer system, which is of a similar age and state of failure as its water distribution network.
