Description:
The YMCA of Northern Alberta will implement a new program called the "Youth Detour Program" to support youth ages 12-17, with moderate to high involvement with the justice system who are transitioning from incarceration to community and/or residing in rural communities. The programming will include one-to-one support, skill development workshops, peace keeping circles, leisure and volunteer activities as a way to address underlying issues impacting youth's protective factors and create a network of supports that help them find both short and long-term success. Over the course of this pilot project, it is anticipated that approximately 60 to 80 youth will benefit from the programming.
