Description:
Inuit Family Courtwork and Gladue Writer Pilot project will pilot the first dedicated resources to represent Inuit clients in Manitoba. Working through a steering committee, MIA will create a Gladue pilot writer position, family courtwork position, develop internal training manuals and operational frameworks. MIA will meet with clients, judges and other partners and begin service delivery. MIA will collect information relevant to the development of a sustained program in Manitoba at a future date.

Since 1978, the Department through the ICW Program makes contributions to provincial/territorial governments through bilateral multi-year cost-sharing contribution agreements to support the provision of culturally competent services to Indigenous persons charged with an offence under federal or provincial statute or municipal by-law or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system.
