This project aims to contribute to the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UNDA) and Action Plan, by developing a unique public health governance model that would be based upon First Nations sovereignty and recognition, and respect for First Nations laws, protocols, and decision-making concerning the health and wellbeing of their citizens through engagement and community awareness building, in the service of policy development on health services governance.

Program Purpose:

The Indigenous Partnership Fund supports ongoing consultation and cooperation with Indigenous peoples to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UN Declaration), the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UN Declaration Act) and measures included in the UN Declaration Act Action Plan.

Implementation of the Action Plan and the UN Declaration, in consultation and cooperation with First Nations, Inuit and Métis, will contribute to the Government of Canada’s continued efforts to break down barriers, combat systemic racism and discrimination, close socio-economic gaps, and promote greater equality and prosperity for Indigenous peoples.

Justice Canada will provide funding to support Indigenous peoples’ continued participation in the various implementation, monitoring and oversight processes described in the Action Plan.
