Description:
The project will offer justice navigation services to support Black francophone adults in Alberta to resolve their criminal legal matters. Individuals in contact with the justice system will be offered culturally sensitive and French accompaniment services to help increase their understanding of their rights and navigate the system, improving their ability to make informed decisions. Clients will also be referred to community social services as needed. In addition, community workshops will be offered to further enhance awareness of legal rights and obligations and how to navigate the justice system.

The Justice Partnership and Innovation Program (JPIP) supports the departmental core responsibility of justice system support. The department plays an essential role in ensuring a fair, relevant and accessible Canadian justice system. JPIP’s longterm goal is to contribute to increasing access to the Canadian justice system and strengthening the Canadian legal framework. It supports policy directions of the Department on issues related to family violence, access to justice, and other emerging justice related issues.
