Description:
The Improving the Court Process through Traditional Teachings Project is the first of a 2-phase project. Phase 1 will focus on promotion and advertising of the project to support community involvement in the development of the training materials for justice partners, including flyers, posters, and radio. In this phase, a video recording of local Elders and knowledge keepers will also be developed to catalogue traditional teachings and justice processes for future training. Phase 2 will be implemented at a later date and will involve the delivery of the material to Courtworkers, clients, judges, Crown, and other justice partners.

Since 1978, the Department through the ICW Program makes contributions to provincial/territorial governments through bilateral multi-year cost-sharing contribution agreements to support the provision of culturally competent services to Indigenous persons charged with an offence under federal or provincial statute or municipal by-law or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system.
