Description:
The Government of New Brunswick’s Restorative Justice Practices in Conflict and Crime: Enhancing the Justice System Response for Our Youth project aims to enhance current efforts pertaining to ensuring a more effective youth justice system, as well as enabling greater citizen and community participation in New Brunswick. The project includes targeted engagement and awareness-building with specified audiences across NB, with a focus on providing trauma-informed, culturally appropriate, and restorative options for youth in conflict with the law, with mindful consideration for the needs of Indigenous youth. The project will achieve four primary objectives: 1) increased training and education on restorative processes across the provincial criminal justice system; 2) targeted engagement and awareness-building through strategic campaigns, working groups, facilitated dialogue, and more; 3) increase referrals to diversionary measures, including predominantly restorative process; and 4) annual conference to bring all stakeholders together.
