Description:
This project involves a partnership to conserve a full set of the Ambrose F. Church maps (1864–1888), showing 18 counties of Nova Scotia. The current project involves the first five maps. Designed for topographical reference, the maps also include head-of-household names and precise locations for all homes in late 19th-century Nova Scotia.
The surviving maps are small in number and mostly deteriorating. Following conservation and preservation, they can be digitized and linked (to census data, genealogical information, other map overlays, etc.) and extended across time. The result will be a huge asset for Canadians researching family history in Nova Scotia, and a major resource for social history scholars.
