Agreement Value:
$24,999.00
Agreement Date:
Apr 17, 2019 - Mar 31, 2020
Description:
The Champagne and Aishihik First Nations will produce a detailed inventory and assessment of their Heritage Program’s oral history and traditional knowledge recordings (audio and visual), including transcripts, summaries and research notes related to these recording efforts, to make this collection accessible. The project will involve a professional archivist who will work with a trainee (Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) citizen, who will receive on-the-job training) to inventory and assess the collection.
Organization:
Library and Archives Canada
Expected Results:

The Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) will organize and inventory a vital and deteriorating set of recordings and make them accessible. These records represent the last generation of Elders on the land, and more specifically, those who lived through the residential school era. They will provide the CAFN, and Canada, with additional information on how this policy affected local culture. The organization will curate this collection to explore the snapshot of history reflected in these interviews. Results will include the identification of records, participants and subject matter; the creation of finding aids; the digitization of records to make them accessible; and communication with the community to offer hope and pride that comes from connecting people with their heritage.
