Description:
By increasing access to and awareness of their archival collection, the Ogniwo Polish Museum aims to educate people about Polish-Canadian history through the stories of everyday individuals and Polish community organizations. A Polish-speaking archivist will arrange and describe specified materials, create finding aids, and enter record descriptions into the Museum’s archival database. The scope of this project includes previously processed records and unprocessed records. The organization has also identified numerous photographic and textual documents of enduring value that are in deteriorating condition due to poor storage conditions before donation. After processing the specified collection, the organization will share these records through the Manitoba Archival Information Network and the Museum’s social media pages and websites.

Expected Results:
Anticipated results for this project include improvements in the following areas: public use of the Museum’s archival holdings; knowledge of and access to records of the Polish community, individuals and organizations in Manitoba; visibility of Ogniwo’s holdings within the archival community in Manitoba; long-term preservation of the organization’s archival collections; access to the archival collections for remote researchers; ease of incorporating digitized documents into virtual exhibits on the website and social media platforms; public knowledge of Polish-Canadian and Polish-Manitoban history through the Museum’s archival records; public engagement with archival records; engagement with archival records outside of the Ogniwo Polish Museum; and the ability to reach non-typical audiences.
