Description:
This project involves three fonds in the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation’s (WAF) collection: the Green Blankstein Russell (GBR) fonds; the Roy Sellors fonds; and the Dennis Carter fonds. The fonds contain materials related to several of Winnipeg's most significant buildings and their designers. The main objectives are to increase access to WAF’s collection; to preserve the original documents; and to inform WAF’s research program. Project activities include the creation of finding aids, digitization of 25 percent of the collection (the organization will prioritize materials related to buildings of architectural significance), and the creation of captions and metadata. A professional archivist will create the finding aids, train staff and volunteers, and be available for consultation throughout the project.
Organization:
Library and Archives Canada
Expected Results:
Short-term results for this project include the creation of two finding aids and digitization of 25 percent of the Green Blankstein Russell (GBR) fonds, Roy Sellors fonds, and Dennis Carter fonds. The finding aids and digitized material will increase public access to this collection and help to ensure its long-term preservation. The Winnipeg Architecture Foundation (WAF) will use this collection in much of its upcoming public programming, which engages several thousand members of the public each year. Through various social media platforms, WAF reaches over 7,500 individuals. The collection will be promoted on these platforms and individuals will be encouraged to consult the newly available material. The organization will also add collection information to the Manitoba Archival Information Network (MAIN).
