Grants and Contributions:
Expected results (outcomes) for the project include: (1) strengthened relationships between participants in the region, creating a regional community of practice and facilitating local networking, between participants and service coordinators, and between the AABC and Indigenous institutions and cultural heritage workers; (2) sharing of resources such as equipment, policy and procedures and best practices (e.g., for digitization and digital preservation); (3) increased capacity in institutions for making documentary heritage accessible physically and digitally as culturally appropriate; (4) increased number of descriptions uploaded to MemoryBC, and archival material digitized and made available online; (5) increased understanding and awareness of the archival profession and archival management practices by Indigenous organizations, governments and knowledge-keepers; (6) improved professional support for First Nations governments and heritage institutions; and (7) established on-going peer-to-peer dialogue between professional archivists and heritage professionals, with Indigenous cultural experts.
The Documentary Heritage Communities Program supports the development of Canada's local archival and library communities by increasing their capacity to preserve, provide access to and promote local documentary heritage.
