Title:
Final processing of the William Cornelius Van Horne series of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company fonds
Agreement Number:
2122-0013
Agreement Value:
$23,493.00
Agreement Date:
May 18, 2021 - Mar 31, 2022
Description:
Further to research conducted in 2004 and 2005, Exporail wishes to complete a project on Sir W.C. Van Horne by producing a travelling exhibition that will be presented at Exporail before being proposed to other Canadian institutions. This research included many works of art, but very few archival records. Having acquired the Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CPRC) Fonds in 2013, the Canadian Railroad Historical Association (CRHA) wishes to further explore its content - particularly Series 1, which is entirely dedicated to Van Horne - in in order to enhance the project and allow for a more intimate look at Van Horne’s personal and professional lives.
Organization:
Library and Archives Canada
Expected Results:
The expected results are increased accessibility to and greater use of CRHA archives by Canadians and other international researchers, thanks in part to the external accessibility to the Series 1 content of the CPRC Fonds. Moreover, the project will help to make the public more aware of CRHA archives. On a broader level, the launch of a travelling exhibition on a theme that people are not very familiar with will introduce them to other important dimensions of a key Canadian figure in the history of Canada’s development.
