• Retention of specialized local employees with CARDI experience
• Archival processing skills for access and outreach in the community improved and maintained
• Preservation of documentary heritage with high historical and intrinsic value
• Use of archives relevant to, and essential for, producing a primer
• Increased knowledge of key figures in local and national history
• Increased awareness and continuing interest on the part of the French- and English-speaking population in its history
• Enhanced descriptions of fonds and collections
Long-term results:
• Increase in the amount of material processed and made accessible
• Increased access to historical archives by both the French-speaking community and the minority English-speaking community
• Improved response to requests for access to this type of archive from the local, national and global communities (including individuals, organizations, institutions, teachers, researchers, and media)
• Increased awareness of CARDI and the documentary heritage under its care
• Increased knowledge of digital archives management with a view to increasing accessibility and ensuring shared inter-institutional databases
The Documentary Heritage Communities Program supports the development of Canada's local archival and library communities by increasing their capacity to preserve, provide access to, and promote local documentary heritage.
