Description:
The main two objectives of the Iwan Boberskyj Collection Digitization Project are to preserve the collection and make it publicly accessible. This collection includes more than 6,200 photographs, mainly of the Prairies and the Winnipeg area, taken during the period from 1920 to 1929 by Ukrainian diplomat Iwan Boberskyj. This collection provides a unique record of Ukrainian pioneer life across the Prairies.
The Boberskyj collection consists of raw historical evidence ready to be discovered, examined and analyzed by academics, researchers, authors, curators as well as the general public.
Organization:
Library and Archives Canada
Expected Results:
The short-term expected results of the project are to provide unlimited access to a digitized version of the Boberskyj collection to anyone with an Internet connection, and to ensure the long-term preservation of the collection. The long-term success of this project is unquantifiable. Public awareness of the early years of Ukrainian settlements in Canada will bear results for the unforeseeable future and deepen understanding of Canadian history. In addition, the project is expected to foster a greater sense of belonging among the Canadian population with a Ukrainian background.
