Description:
The Kaatza Historical Society wishes to modernize its forest industry archival collections, by (1) creating descriptions and finding aids that follow the Rules of Archival Description, and (2) ensuring access for researchers and members of the public. We wish to use the Documentary Heritage Community Grant to pay the wages of an archivist and to cover the costs of equipment necessary for safely storing these historical documents and making them accessible.

Expected Results:

The short-term result will be that the museum and archives achieves intellectual control over three significant documentary heritage collections. By extension, through educating staff and volunteers, this will also lead to the museum adopting better practices for its other collections. The outputs will include the production of detailed finding aids for these collections, as well as digital versions of 300 photos, 40 VHS recordings, and 40 interviews.
