Title:
Alexis Oral Histories Project
Agreement Number:
2223-0098
Agreement Value:
$32,890.00
Agreement Date:
Apr 1, 2022 - Mar 31, 2024
Description:
This project will focus on digitizing oral histories by recording interviews. This activity is urgent, given that the knowledge pool continues to shrink as Elders pass away. The Nation has been cataloguing and digitizing the Nation’s oral histories for decades. Archives support the survival of oral history, language revitalization, assertions of land rights, reclamation of identity, and recovery from genocide. This project will refine the capacities built during the previous Alexis History Project, made possible by the DHCP. Three researchers will be hired. They will be assisted by fluent Stoney speakers to conduct interviews with Elders.
Organization:
Library and Archives Canada
Expected Results:
The project will result in (1) a series of interviews with Elders to build the Nation’s oral history archives, and (2) increased staff and community capacity for interviewing and cataloguing. Researchers will coordinate and conduct interviews with support from the Heritage Director, the administrative assistant, and fluent Stoney Speakers. Researchers will keep a record of their activities and catalogue their interviews. In addition, they will practice protocol and catalogue the archives they build. This project will benefit the approximately 2,200 Nation members living on and off reserve by building the archives collection.
