Description:
This project involves recording the oral histories of at least 100 residents and former residents of the Lakes District, with a special emphasis on the oral histories of people of Indigenous and non-Caucasian descent. The history of the Lakes District is not just the history of the colonizers; many non-Caucasians contributed to the region’s growth.

Short-term results: The collection, cataloguing, indexing, and transcribing of at least 100 oral histories, 30 percent of which will be the oral histories of Indigenous residents and other non-Caucasians. Long-Term Results: Increased long-term use of the archives by genealogists, historians, and Indigenous people; increased publicity for the museum; increased awareness of the museum, its collection, and programming; increased collaboration between the museum society and local First Nations.
