Description:
The VHEC proposes to conserve and digitize materials donated to the VHEC by Vancouver-based Holocaust survivors and their descendants for the purpose of enhancing finding aids and catalogue records. Materials include diaries, drawings, documents, and correspondence from German-Jewish refugees interned in Canadian internment camps, photo albums documenting refugee immigration, as well as correspondence and identity documents.

Expected Results:
Short-term results include building skills and capacity in contract employees, improved understanding of archival holdings and improved storage and preservation conditions for these materials. Long-term results include increased public access to and awareness of our holdings, increased potential for the research, use and exhibition of items, increased useful lifespan of key fragile and damaged items needing conservation
