Description:
This VHEC project aims to strengthen and support the organization’s digital preservation efforts by upgrading its LTO (Linear Tape-Open) system and migrating data from LTO 7 to LTO 10 tapes. Key activities include migrating Holocaust testimony data, updating preservation policies and workflows, enhancing metadata in the VHEC’s internal Digital Preservation module in Collective Access, and improving digital preservation infrastructure for long-term access.
Organization:
Library and Archives Canada
Expected Results:

The VHEC aims to migrate its Holocaust testimony collection from LTO 7 to LTO 10 tapes to ensure long-term digital preservation. In the short-term, the project will result in the successful migration of materials, the creation of updated archival preservation packages (including both preservation and access copies), and the addition of descriptive, technical, and preservation metadata previously not included on the LTO 7 tapes.

In the long-term, the project aims to establish a comprehensive digital preservation system with documentation and plans for future migration initiatives.
