Description:
This project will digitize and provide online access to letters, ledgers, maps and images from the Daniel McLachlin era, from 1852 to 1929. Daniel McLachlin was an Ottawa Valley lumber baron and entrepreneur who founded the town of Arnprior and became the first member of Parliament for South Renfrew. McLachlin’s more than 600 letters from 1834 to 1857 will provide insight into the business and personal life of this community leader. The project also protects delicate originals from further handling and offers access to rare documents from the timber industry.

Expected Results:
Expected results include the long-term preservation of the Daniel McLachlin collection. The organization will protect original documents and retain an offsite digital copy. The online collection provides access to information about the lumber era in the Ottawa Valley and the McLachlin empire. The organization will benefit from digitization equipment and trained volunteers to add archival documents to the databases.
