Title:
Development of an Assay for Screening of Pathogenic Bacterial Strains
Agreement Number:
931407
Agreement Value:
$25,000.00
Agreement Date:
Jul 1, 2019 - Mar 31, 2020
Description:
The rhomboid protease gene glpG is essential for ExPEC E. coli colonization, which occurs naturally in the gut. However some strains can spread to other niches leading to pathologies: blood infections and urinary tract infections. The GlpG protease likely cleaves a protein(s) that regulates the production of protein(s) important for colonization. We are are trying to explore the role of glpG gene and its influence in bacterial colonization during health and disease. We will be also looking for physiological substrates for GlpG using biochemical assays. This assay can used for the detection of antibiotic resistant bacteria in hospitals and other areas as needed. We intend to commercialize the assay to pharmaceutical industry.
