Description:
CIIP - China - SDS with Trustworthy (Beijing)Technology Co., Ltd: IRAP Project summary.
Currently, the state-of-the-art in jaw reconstruction is to use fully-guided surgical design and simulation (SDS) CAD-CAM to treat patients. The SDS process involves a planning phase to create virtual digital models of target (e.g., jaw) and donor (e.g., fibula) sites. The virtual models are used to plan the surgery, reconstruction, and location of implants to be used in oral rehabilitation. From this plan, custom surgical guides are designed and produced with 3D printing and used in the operating room. The hallmark of SDS is improved surgical care and anatomical outcomes. There is a need for a uniform digital platform for the whole planning phase to remove the current barriers between proprietary software components. Most importantly, it is necessary to integrate muscular activation and movements of the jaw muscles into the surgical plan for optimal functional outcomes.
