Grants and Contributions:
Title:
Advanced wavefront sensing through machine learning
Agreement Number:
989277
Agreement Value:
$91,300.00
Agreement Date:
May 1, 2022 - May 31, 2025
Description:
When light beams travel through the atmosphere, they are deformed because of variations in temperature, humidity and wind conditions. This makes reconstruction of the signal carried by the light beam very challenging. Wavefront sensing approaches allows one to measure such deformations so that they can corrected. However, doing so efficiently is extremely challenging. The Project aims to develop a better understanding of the fundamental limits of wavefront sensing and to apply advanced ML/AI techniques to optimize the sensing approach. This work will further the development of broadband wavefront sensing systems targeted at space-toground optical communications.
Organization:
National Research Council Canada
Expected Results:
In the short term, anticipated outcomes will be strengthened collaborations across industry, academia, and government to support research excellence. In the medium term, anticipated outcomes will be the development of new and potentially disruptive technologies with collaborators.
