Title:
YEP - Sphaeroforma arctica, a second way to valorize microalgal biomass
Agreement Number:
972789
Agreement Value:
$27,090.00
Agreement Date:
Jun 7, 2021 - Mar 31, 2022
Description:
When extracting compounds of interest from microalgae, a significant part of the biomass cannot be exploited. In the case of stable isotope enriched biomass, this residual biomass has a significant commercial value. In order to exploit this biomass, the company wishes to evaluate the possibility of using this organic matter as a nutrient source for a second level decomposer protist, Sphaeroforma artica. This microorganism has recently been identified as being extremely efficient at recycling waste material while being an incredible source of long chain omega-3 (DHA, EPA and DPA) which are highly sought as lipids in the industry.
