Title:
Integration of eco-friendly habitats into coastal structures
Agreement Number:
984555
Agreement Value:
$137,280.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 15, 2022 - Mar 14, 2025
Description:
This project, a comprehensive research program, aims to develop specific knowledge concerning the hydraulic performance, durability and resilience of several eco-friendly habitats and structure combinations under challenging Canadian climactic conditions. This research program will involve an extensive experimental and numerical modeling program and is directly aligned with the Coastal Resilience technology theme of NRC's Ocean program which aims to develop new knowledge, tools and solutions to improve flood and erosion risk reduction capabilities and increase the climate resilience of waterfront communities, industries and governments across Canada. The research will address key knowledge gaps and barriers, advance the understanding and thereby promoting and enabling more frequent integration of eco-friendly habitats in the design of implementation of natural and nature-based features and eco-friendly habitats in Canadian coastal environments and infrastructure, including their ability to reduce flood and erosion risk, which is a key element of the Coastal Resilience theme.
Organization:
National Research Council Canada
Expected Results:

In the short term, anticipated outcomes will be strengthened collaborations across industry, academia, and government to support research excellence. In the medium term, anticipated outcomes will be the development of new and potentially disruptive technologies with collaborators. In the long term, find collaborative solutions to public policy challenges and create stronger innovation systems.
