Description:
Today, when we assemble our cast alloy assemblies, we pre heat prior to welding with open flame tiger torches. While that meets minimum standards, it does not ensure we have even heat throughout the cast component, nor consistent heat during the welding process (which can take 16 hours). When we finish the welding, we need to apply post heat in a controlled cool down, using blankets.
We will evaluate induction heating in place of current torches. Based on our research, we will have numerous benefits including:
1. A safer environment with the elimination of open flame
2. A faster preheat time.
3. Controlled temperature during the welding
4. Consistent temperature throughout the cast component
5. Easier and faster cool down methods
