Title:
Novel Supplementary Cementitious Materials from Concrete Waste - Phase 1
Agreement Number:
1013138
Agreement Value:
$44,412.00
Agreement Date:
Jan 1, 2024 - Mar 31, 2024
Description:
Preparatory stage of developing technology for converting recycled concrete remains obtained from construction and demolition waste and returned concrete leavings from ready mix concrete trucks into reactive Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM). The technology is based on the principle of mechanochemical activation of the recycled concrete remains/leavings in energy intensive grinding mills where the produced inside the mill impacts cause generation of crystal lattice defects or other metastable forms in the concrete particle, thereby converting inert mineral into a reactive material. The obtained reactive mineral material can be further used as a reactive (pozzolanic or hydraulic) SCM.
