Title:
Optimization and decarbonization of building construction through industrialization
Agreement Number:
1015588
Agreement Value:
$660,000.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 31, 2024 - Mar 31, 2027
Description:
The main goal of the proposed research is to support the decarbonization of offsite construction by reducing process waste and carbon footprint through the development and implementation of intelligent tools for performance monitoring, scheduling, management, communication, and plant layout design. This will include (1) surveying construction manufacturers to evaluate current practice; (2) preparing a report on the survey findings; (3) preparing a self-assessment survey for participating companies (this tool will allow the participating companies to interrogate their own current practice, focusing on project planning and management, opportunities for process waste reduction, and commitment to decarbonization); (4) developing a framework for data-driven planning and management to reduce process waste at the manufacturing stage of offsite construction; and (5) developing a framework for a digital communication, data-driven decision making, factory layout optimization, and GHG assessment within a common data environment.
Organization:
National Research Council Canada
Expected Results:

In the short term, anticipated outcomes will be strengthened collaborations across industry, academia, and government to support research excellence. In the medium term, anticipated outcomes will be the development of new and potentially disruptive technologies with collaborators. In the long term, find collaborative solutions to public policy challenges and create stronger innovation systems.
