Title:
Protective and Functional Coatings and Overlays Using ID-HVOF/HVAF
Spray Systems
Agreement Number:
1014013
Agreement Value:
$375,000.00
Agreement Date:
May 9, 2024 - Mar 31, 2026
Description:
The Project aims to advance protective coatings for the internal surfaces of
industrial critical components with confined cavities, addressing challenges
related to high-temperature oxidation, wear and corrosion. Utilizing
miniaturized ID-HVOF/HVAF spray technologies, the Project seeks to
develop a viable process for industries requiring improved material
performance in these hard-to-reach areas. The Project will focus on three
key material systems: MCrAlY, Inconel and stainless-steel, known for their
resistance to extreme conditions. In this context, the Project’s primary
objectives involve refining the coating process, leveraging ID-HVOF/HVAF
for fabrication of thick overlays, and conducting a comprehensive analysis
of coatings’ performance. The ultimate goal of this process development is
to extend product lifetime, reduce downtime, maintenance costs and
environmental impact. Successful adoption of ID-HVOF/HVAF technologies
will contribute to innovation and competitiveness, particularly in Canadian
aerospace, energy, and oil and gas sectors, ensuring Canada’s leadership
in emerging technologies
