ARIADNE: platform for Accelerated and pRecisIon pAndemic Diagnostics and iNfection hEalth
Agreement Number:
1024053
Agreement Value:
$484,000.00
Agreement Date:
Nov 1, 2024 - Oct 31, 2027
Description:
The Small teams Big Ideas project aims to address critical gaps in sepsis management by developing ARIADNE, a rapid, integrated point-of-care diagnostic platform. It integrates NRC's microfluidic technology with novel gene circuit-based molecular sensors, facilitated by machine learning algorithms for biomarker refinement. The project spans four phases: target identification and sensor technology development, target validation and integration of microfluidics and sensor technology, testing and performance optimization of prototype and clinical validation of prototype. The platform promises automated, real-time molecular stratification of sepsis severity and immune response subtypes, crucial for personalized care in hospital settings. ARIADNE’s design emphasizes portability, affordability, and ease of use, like rapid antigen tests but with the sensitivity of PCR, enabling decentralized deployment without relying on cold chain logistics.
Organization:
National Research Council Canada
Expected Results:

In the short term, anticipated outcomes will be strengthened collaborations across industry, academia, and government to support research excellence. In the medium term, anticipated outcomes will be the development of new and potentially disruptive technologies with collaborators. In the long term, find collaborative solutions to public policy challenges and create stronger innovation systems.

Program:
Collaborative Science, Technology and Innovation Program – Ideation Fund
Program Purpose:

The Ideation Fund is intended to encourage, test and validate transformative research ideas generated by teams of NRC scientific personnel and external collaborators with complementary capabilities, acting as a demonstration phase for a continually-evolving suite of research and development (R&D) deliverables at the NRC. The fund supports exploratory research through two mechanisms: the New Beginnings Initiative and the Small Teams Initiative.
