Description:
Berry harvests, valued at $744 million CAD in 2020, are economically significant and culturally vital for Indigenous Peoples in North America, connecting foods and traditional practices. However, wild berry populations in Yukon are declining, with unknown causes. This project aims to conduct a feasibility study and engage Yukon First Nation communities to identify impacts and access barriers. By integrating traditional ecological knowledge and modern technology, the project seeks to empower communities in research design, enhance food sovereignty, promote biodiversity, and resilience to climate change while improving quality of life in Arctic and Northern communities
