Title:
Scaling up and Optimizing Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream Processes for Production of Hydrous Bio-Graphene Oxide (hBGO) Admixture from Wood Biochar for Decarbonization of Concrete
Agreement Number:
1026387
Agreement Value:
$398,200.00
Agreement Date:
Dec 1, 2024 - Nov 30, 2025
Description:
This IRAP R&D project proposal focuses on developing an innovative and groundbreaking bio-graphene based admixture for decarbonizing concrete. Hydrous Bio-Graphene Oxide (hBGO) is made via pyrolysis of softwood lumber residues followed by surfactant-assisted liquid phase exfoliation of stable dispersions of graphene oxide nanoplatelets and micronized biochar. Subprojects include development and testing of optimal solutions for sustainable biochar production (upstream), biochar exfoliation into bio-graphene oxide (midstream), and the integration of hBGO into concrete mixtures for low-carbon applications (downstream).
