Description:
This project explores quantum error correction as a cutting-edge quantum technology for noise characterization tasks and study its interplay with theoretical physics including quantum matter and quantum gravity. The first part aims to design quantum error correction (QEC) protocols for learning correlated quantum noise, leveraging properties of quantum errorcorrecting codes to uncover high-weight noise components. Additionally, QEC methods for suppressing noise on ancillary qubits for a series of ancilla-assisted quantum learning algorithms will be investigated. In the second part, quantum coding theory techniques will be pursed towards addressing fundamental questions in theoretical physics, namely in quantum matter and gravity. Potential realizations of fault-tolerant quantum computing tasks will be sought, inspired by this project’s theoretical findings. These efforts are expected to advance the development of noise characterization and fault-tolerant quantum computation, while deepening the understanding of quantum information in theoretical physics
