Description:
Cement is a critical infrastructure material that is both energy and carbon intensive to produce.  Unlike fossil fuels, cement cannot be easily phased out and currently accounts for approximately 5-7% of all GHG emissions. Additionally, most of the glass collected for recycling ends up in landfills, with the highest volume use of both glass and cement being in major cities. PLAN’s project, “PozGlassTM 100G: a waste glass to cement replacement product with CO2 sequestration” will demonstrate a pilot scale, continuous manufacturing process, using patent-pending technology and Canadian waste glass feedstock, that can be duplicated in major cities across Canada and the globe. The production process uses waste glass diverted from landfill and sequesters existing plant emissions, to create a high value product that: -mitigates the emissions of cement, -provides superior structural capabilities compared to competitors, -promotes a sustainable, circular economy, and -eliminates overseas or out of province sourcing due to existing shortage, reducing fuel usage and lowering GHGs.
