Title:
Building Envelope Energy Saving & De-carbonization Plan
Agreement Number:
1029588
Agreement Value:
$3,022,847.58
Agreement Date:
Mar 13, 2025 - Nov 30, 2027
Description:
Buildings account for approximately 50% of total energy use and 40% of total GHG emissions globally. The building envelope (i.e., the physical interface between the indoor and outdoor environments) is responsible for much of the energy balance that occurs in the building. Of the annual air conditioning heating energy consumption of public buildings, there was about 50% consumed by the heat transfer of the building envelope. QEA Tech conducts detailed building envelope energy audits using drones and thermography. Our clients can zero in on specific faults in the building envelope to make data-driven retrofit decisions and capital plans. We calculate: i) energy losses and GHG emissions associated with building envelope elements (walls, windows, doors, etc.), ii) remediation/upgrade costs, and iii) projected ROIs of retrofit projects. Our current project is focused on developing a building decarbonization plan for building envelopes within QEA Tech’s software to augment the current audits completed. QEA Tech aims to further increase our value proposition to customers and lead to greater decarbonization and GHG reductions. This technology initiative will make it easier for clients to obtain internal approvals, carry out repairs and retrofits on the building envelope, and achieve the associated energy and GHG savings. The aim is to make it a seamless process with minimal burden on customer resources to achieve the benefits of building envelope improvements articulated by QEATech.

Program Purpose:

The NRC-IRAP Clean Technology Program will support Canadian SMEs in the research and development of sustainable development technologies, up to their commercialization, with the potential to deliver economic and environmental outcomes.

Coverage:
NRC-IRAP Clean Technology projects stimulate wealth creation for Canada through sustainable development technological innovation, while improving Canada’s environmental indicators related to greenhouse gas emissions (GCG), waste management, air quality or drinking water based on the types of sustainable development technologies that will be supported.│Les projets de technologies propres du PARI-CNRC stimulent la création de richesse pour le Canada grâce à l’innovation technologique en matière de développement durable, tout en améliorant les indicateurs environnementaux du Canada liés aux émissions de gaz à effet de serre (GES), à la gestion des déchets, à la qualité de l’air ou à l’eau potable en fonction des types de technologies de développement durable qui seront soutenues.
