Title:
Stabilized Lasers for Industrial Quantum Technologies
Agreement Number:
1030675
Agreement Value:
$386,719.00
Agreement Date:
May 23, 2025 - Mar 31, 2028
Description:
Commercial laser diodes require stabilization by factors ranging from 1000 to 1,000,000 times to meet the accuracy requirements of quantum applications. The Project aims to use techniques from the photonics industry to develop accurate and stable laser systems for quantum technologies. The Project aims to advance stabilization techniques that have sufficient performance to stabilize the laser frequencies for general purpose cold-atom laser cooling and optical pumping at wavelengths across the UV-NIR. The Project is a collaboration with the NRC’s optical atomic clock team, who validate the performance of the techniques using their trapped Strontium-ion optical clock.
Organization:
National Research Council Canada
Expected Results:

In the short term, anticipated outcomes will be strengthened collaborations across industry, academia, and government to support research excellence. In the medium term, anticipated outcomes will be the development of new and potentially disruptive technologies with collaborators. In the long term, find collaborative solutions to public policy challenges and create stronger innovation systems.
