Description:
In the electric steelmaking route, the Electric Arc Furnace process is the most critical phase in terms of energy consumption, metallic losses, and overall cost. One of the main challenges is the limited knowledge of the characteristics of the charged scrap and its melting behavior inside the furnace, as well as the condition of the slag and molten steel bath. Tallman is developing a permeant in-furnace vision system and sensors for monitoring furnace and slag conditions and scrap melting, allowing the operators greater control over the process, not previously possible.
