Community-scale Retrofit Scenario Analysis
Agreement Number:
1034838
Agreement Value:
$50,000.00
Agreement Date:
Sep 30, 2025 - Aug 15, 2027
Description:
Canada aims to reduce building-related greenhouse gas emissions by 40 45% by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050. As buildings account for 12% of national emissions mainly from space and water heating retrofitting existing stock is essential. This Project, led by NRC and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), supports the development of standardized methods and tools for community-scale retrofit scenario analysis. TMU will enhance building archetypes with detailed data to simulate retrofits in Toronto (ASHRAE CZ5) and Montreal (ASHRAE CZ6), contributing a tool to assess retrofit potential across varying grid carbon intensities. These efforts , NB (CZ7) and Northern communities like Paulatuk, NWT (CZ8), where prototype models are being developed using aggregate datasets. Together, the Project aims to identify effective retrofit pathways tailored to diverse regional contexts, enabling communities -based decisionShediac and Paulatuk use cases.
