Description:
Diseased blood vessels in the retina are the main cause of vision loss in diseases like age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, which collectively affect 380 million individuals worldwide. The primary mechanisms that drive vision loss in these diseases are well-known: (i) leakage from retinal blood vessels, and (ii) reduced blood supply to retinal tissue.
The aim is ultimately to develop a robust method for measuring leakage from retinal blood vessels and reduced retinal blood supply, to allow accurate monitoring of these abnormalities during patient follow-up and in response to treatment.
