Description:
The youth is conducting in vitro research on Streptococcus salivarius SALI-10™, an advanced oral probiotic strain that produces unique phosphorylated lantibiotics with antimicrobial activity. Her work expands Ostia’s R&D into respiratory pathogens, exploring the versatility and cross-system effects of this probiotic strain. The project evaluates SALI-10™’s ability to limit colonization by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Micrococcus luteus, and determines whether these effects result from direct antimicrobial activity or immune cell priming that enhances antibacterial responses.
