Description:
The 2019 version of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code is adding requirements for owners to consider sustainability and resilience of their structures such as buried structures. A sustainable product balances economic, social, cultural and environmental interests to meet infrastructure needs. A resilient structure can adapt to changes such as extreme hydraulic events. AIL intends to develop a design method to for our buried structures to meet sustainability and resilience objectives. This project involves evaluating the impact of extreme hydraulic events on buried structures with the goal of understanding of how buried structures can be designed to better adapt to climate change while while improving our sustainability metrics.
