Title:
Fabrication of achromatic 90° and 120° optical fiber coupler hybrids
Agreement Value:
$36,250.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 23, 2020 - Mar 31, 2022
Description:
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging technique for visualizing cell layers of organs without the need to take samples. Internal organs are reached with fibre optic catheters. Originally developed for telecommunications, these optical fibres can be adapted to the constraints of endoscopic imaging. Here, the aim is to develop fibre optic couplers dedicated to medical imaging. In particular, the team is studying the measurement of the phase to improve the signal to noise ratio of OCT images.

Collaborative Science, Technology and Innovation Program – Ideation Fund
Program Purpose:
The Ideation Fund is intended to encourage, test and validate transformative research ideas generated by teams of NRC scientific personnel and external collaborators with complementary capabilities, acting as a demonstration phase for a continually-evolving suite of research and development (R&D) deliverables at the NRC. The fund supports exploratory research through two mechanisms: the New Beginnings Initiative and the Small Teams Initiative.
