Description:
Peculiarities of quantum physics such as superposition and entanglement offer unprecedented advantages in secure communication, computing, sensing and metrology. Recent progress in the development of photonic sources and detectors (specifically photon number resolving detectors) propels research and development in efficient and scalable quantum photonic sensing devices. These devices surpass fundamental limits on the sensitivity of conventional techniques such as standard homodyne and single photon detection. This project will apply photon-number-resolving detection in several sensing applications (e.g., phase estimation and interaction-free imaging). We aim to develop sensors that are more tolerant
to real-world imperfections by using novel measurement strategies enabled by the number-resolving detectors.
