Title:
Imagery for the in-situ detection and characterization of ocean microplastics
Agreement Number:
1021588
Agreement Value:
$147,400.00
Agreement Date:
Sep 1, 2024 - Mar 31, 2027
Description:
The aim of this Project is to support the development of an instrument that can be deployed in the marine environment and can detect, measure the size of and characterize ocean microplastics in situ and in real time, to improve the measurement and monitoring of this type of ocean pollution. This will entail the development in the laboratory of underwater spectroscopy and imaging techniques for detecting, measuring and characterizing particles under significant seawater flow conditions and the laboratory demonstration of this technology using a prototype.
Organization:
National Research Council Canada
Expected Results:
In the short term, anticipated outcomes will be strengthened collaborations across industry, academia, and government to support research excellence. In the medium term, anticipated outcomes will be the development of new and potentially disruptive technologies with collaborators. In the long term, find collaborative solutions to public policy challenges and create stronger innovation systems.
