Description:
The purpose of this agreement is to provide technical secretariat support for the Generation IV International Forum (GIF). The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) will effectively coordinate and support the multilateral international research and development initiative to establish the feasibility and performance capabilities of the next generation of nuclear energy systems.

Expected Results:

Participation in the GIF will enable Canada to remain a significant player in both the domestic and international nuclear technology development arenas, and will contribute to the growth of Canadian nuclear industry and the development of Canadian expertise. A main focus of the international effort is to coordinate the research to be undertaken and share the results between members to reduce the overall cost and time. As an active participant in GIF, Canada will be able to develop next generation research expertise and knowledge, and continue to play a leadership role in the global nuclear community. Canada gains access to the innovative technologies developed through multilateral R&D collaborations and has access to existing research facilities, research results and knowledge that otherwise may be out of reach.
