Title:
Mineral (Graphite) Traceability Study
Agreement Number:
PQ NMG STUDY
Agreement Value:
$25,000.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 31, 2021 - Mar 31, 2022
Description:
The purpose of this grant is to support the development of a traceability system for battery-grade spherical purified graphite at the location of Nouveau Monde Graphite, from mineral extraction to to refining. The Project involves identification and collection of data (e.g. GHG emissions, chemistry, environmental/social/governance factors); development and implementation of a traceability platform (software/hardware). Data collected will serve to build tranparency and demonstrate the sustainability in Canada's battery value chain and to develop global battery transparency standards, under the Global Battery Alliance.
Organization:
Natural Resources Canada
Expected Results:
Expected results include: a map of the graphite value chain at Nouveau Monde Graphite; identification of the sources of GHG emissions, parameters necessary for this assessment, and a traceability strategy applicable to GHG emissions; development of the platform that will be used for the traceability system; identification of criteria and standards applicable to social and governnce issues and development of the associated reporting mechanism; production of an interim report by March 31, 2021 and final report; intgration of project results into the Global Battery Alliance's Battery Passport (version 1.0) for development of global mineral traceability platform based on Canadian ESG standards.
