The objective of this project is to strengthen the capacity of the Métis Nation to reconnect with better understanding of wildland fire and a better respond to the impacts of wildland fire on our citizen

Expected Results:

The Proponent will achieve the project through conducting in-depth research of how the Métis worked and used fire, how wildland fire is currently impacting Métis citizens by identifying the current gaps and needs moving forward, by establishing greater synergies between current initiatives and experts, by finding opportunities to support the inclusion of Métis knowledge on wildland fire, and provide opportunities for knowledge sharing and awareness raising. This work will ultimately create a space for the inclusion, reconciliation and celebration of Métis approaches to wildland fire management, as well as reduce the impacts related to fire events.

Program Purpose:

The purpose is to increase the resiliency of Canadian communities to the risks and impacts of natural disasters, and to undertake and implement risk reduction analyses and actions. To ensure that wildfire response agencies are integrated with each other in order to implement an effective wildland fire response program, and, to increase the wildfire knowledge of agencies, communities and individuals, in order to create a culture of wildfire safety and to empower the public to understand risk.
