Description:
The objective of this project is to support collaboration between researchers and practitioners, to recognize the Indigenous and historical use of fire and learn about incorporating this Traditional Ecological Knowledge into fire programs, highlight new technology and science-based advances and understanding that can help inform decision-making, risk assessments, risk reduction and fire management activities, and to increase diversity and inclusion by providing opportunities for scholarships and assistance to attend the conference.

Expected Results:
This Project will contribute to allowing more people to attend the conference and promotes diversity by allowing more people to attend who may not be able to attend otherwise. This Project encourages Indigenous perspectives by supporting Indigenous Elders participation and by weaving Indigenous perspectives throughout the entire program. This Project will support production assistance to create a high quality hybrid in person and online event.

Program Purpose:
The purpose is to increase the resiliency of Canadian communities to the risks and impacts of natural disasters, and to undertake and implement risk reduction analyses and actions. To ensure that wildfire response agencies are integrated with each other in order to implement an effective wildland fire response program, and, to increase the wildfire knowledge of agencies, communities and individuals, in order to create a culture of wildfire safety and to empower the public to understand risk.
